Statement on the new US tariffs
CHOCOSUISSE regrets that no agreement has yet been reached with the United States to avoid the increase in import duties. The Swiss export industry is now faced with a basic duty rate of 39 percent, which represents a massive and disproportionate burden for the companies affected.

Even if the tariffs now coming into force prove to be temporary, their economic impact is likely to be severe. This underscores the urgent need for the Federal Council to continue talks with the US as a matter of the highest priority. The aim must be to reach a swift agreement that brings about a substantial reduction in tariffs. In this context, a coordinated and united approach by the Federal Council and the business community is essential.
At the same time, Swiss politicians must now take decisive action: an effective package of measures is needed to provide targeted relief to affected companies and reinforce Switzerland's long-term attractiveness as a business location.
Our member companies are highly innovative, export-oriented, and play a key role in shaping the global image of high-quality Swiss products. However, for many companies, a 39 percent tariff on the US market presents a serious challenge and, without mitigating measures, will jeopardize sales and jobs in the medium term.
